Of course, in the end, it's up to the judge how much time a person gets if they end up pleading guilty at the federal level for child pornography.  

But, if you claim guilty for distribution, you're facing a 5-year mandatory minimum.  It could be more time.  If you plead guilty to the production of child pornography, you would be facing a 15-year mandatory minimum.  That's another thing where people make a mistake – not realizing there are mandatory minimums when it comes to child pornography cases.

Case Mitigation

So, we've got to look at what happened in your case, what your exposure is, and what can be done to try to mitigate things or defeat the case altogether if you have a good argument or angle for a jury trial.  

Don't make the common mistake of not getting an attorney.  Don't make the common mistake of not taking your case seriously and realize that when it comes to child pornography, the prosecutors and judges take these cases very seriously, and the government has set up a situation where they're going to punish these cases probably the harshest of most federal cases that are filed.
