The Federal Bureau of Prisons was established in 1930 and today the Bureau consists of 116 institutions, 6 regional offices, a Central Office (headquarters), 2 staff training centers, and 22 community corrections offices.

The MDC, as one of the administrative facilities, is a $70 million, 172,000 square foot, five floor structured jail. The jail is built for 151 beds but currently has 440 beds. The facility is made to accommodate 512 inmates, holding each inmate for no longer than 96 hours.

Visiting hours are available 7 days a week from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. - 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. Arrestees may have one visit a day by a family member or friend and an attorney, bail bonds person, or member of clergy may visit anytime.
